Audacity Games announce Rescue From Poseidon’s Gate

David Crane and Audacity Games have announced their next Atari 2600 release, Rescue From Poseidon’s Gate. Ordering goes live October 22, 2025. A standard and collector’s edition will be available.

The demo video shows a game where you control a deep sea diver in a old fashioned diving suit, apparently to perform an underwater rescue.

My initial impressions are that the game isn’t as impressive as Circus Convoy. The game looks like it feels sluggish, as you might imagine your movements wearing a very heavy diving suit underwater would be. And the challenges seem meh: on any given vertical line, there may be a fish of some kind that you either want to collect for points, for some reason, or avoid or shoot if it’s a hostile fish. Eventually you do battle with some sharks and rescue a stranded submarine. Nothing about it looks particularly challenging; it seems very slow and deliberately paced, but might have appeal to a young child.

On the other hand, this is a game coming from the David Crane, one of the founders of Activision Games, and a legend of the industry. So it’s hard to imagine him not putting out something impressive. Perhaps there are secrets awaiting in the game that aren’t given away in the trailer. The graphics do look nice, for the technical limitations of the console.
